My Thoughts on Blogging

When I was first approached, several years ago may I add, about starting a blog I had no idea what a “blog” was, more less how to do a “blog”!  However, having stepped into the 21st century and the age of Facebook, Twitter, etc… I am finally learning what this social media is all about.  I have always been known as a “socially outgoing” type of person; however, much to the surprise of most, even the people who know me best, I am a rather quiet and private individual.  So, therefore, the thought of a blog was out of the picture! However, as I have plowed on through the social media world, I have found myself enjoying the connections, old and new, that have come.  So, here I am … in the blogging world and not a clue what I’m doing! lol
Why blog?  I’ve asked myself that question several times over the past few days. The answer that has continued to surface is that I have something to say.  Not that what I have to say will be agreeable to everyone that may read my words; however, more importantly is the cathartic release that is experienced when one is able to express himself. Maybe my thoughts will evoke thoughts of others and good conversations can be started.
Many times when I am talking with a patient there are things that I learn from the experience of therapy as well. These will for sure become some of my blog posts. I will never discuss the details of my patients, however, but only what I glean from the process of being in session with others. It is sometimes forgotten that we therapists do learn from our patients just as much as they patient may learn something in their time on the couch.  This is one of the many benefits of being a therapist. I hope that I will never stop learning, for that would surely be a miserable day.
Other posts will be answering questions that may come from followers or other passers-by that are interested in the process of psychology and psychotherapy. I welcome these questions as I think it is important to help dispel the stigma of what therapy isn’t and educate what the therapeutic process is actually about. So, if you find yourself reading this post, be thinking of how you wish to join in on the conversation.
Another branch of my writing will be on music. Music is my passion. Everything about music, from listening and being a spectator to performing and enjoying the experiential aspect of the healing powers of music. Topics I’m sure will vary as does my taste in the various genres. Rest assured, however, that you will definitely get my opinion!
All in all, this “blogging thing” is a new venture that I will undertake. Join me for the ride and whatever form this blog takes will be surprise to both you and me. I really have no set agenda other than to write as I go.
So, here’s to blogging!
